As
a result of his lack of schooling due to illness, Ringo was
not allowed to sit the eleven plus examination as his teacher
thought he would be unable to pass. He attended Dingle Vale
Secondary School when he was 11 and was the only Beatle not
to have a Grammar School education. At 13, due to pleurisy,
Ringo was admitted to the Children's Hospital where he became
interested in drums after joining a children's band.

John entered the school in September 1952 after passing
the eleven plus examination the previous June at Dovedale
Road Junior School. He rebelled against the schools formal
structure and gained a reputation as a waster and rebel.

In the late 1960's, the school changed from a boys only grammar

The
Liverpool Institute, Mount Street
One
of Liverpool's finest grammar schools, 'The Innie' was school
to both Paul McCartney and George Harrison*. Paul was a good
student passing 5 'O' levels and entering the 6th Form to
study Art and English.George however, was more of a rebel
and did not really excel at his studies.

 |
|
In the late eighties, after the school had closed in a state
of disrepair, Paul announced that he was going to save the
building and convert it into Liverpools own 'Fame School'.
Today the school is known as the Liverpool Institute of Performing
Arts. Sir Paul still makes appearances as a guest lecturer.
