Yellow Submarine
may have to set sail.
Apprentices
at Cammell Laird for the Garden festival built the Yellow Submarine as
a tribute to the Fab Four song in 1984. It is at present situated in Chavasse
Park but major redevelopment plans for the park mean it may have to be
moved. National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside want permission to
site it outside the Museum of Life at the Pier Head. Mike Storey leader
of the City Council has stated he would like to see the Yellow Submarine
moved around prominent sites in the city. A council spokesman said: "National
Museums and Galleries on Merseyside has submitted a planning application,
but not on the basis that there is any move imminent. They have submitted
it so that on some date in the future the planning permission is there
should they need it." National Museums and Galleries have confirmed that
the planning application to move the submarine has been submitted, but
said no plans for a move date had been set. 16/01/2001
