Prescott to blow
whistle on Reds'
The final
say on Liverpool FC's plans for a super stadium on Stanley Park in Anfield
has been given to Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott.
It is hoped
that the clubs proposal for a 70,000 seater stadium on part of the Victorian
park will replace the nearby current home of the Reds'. Liverpool FC's
plans are as follows:
March. A regeneration plan will be published to show how the stadium fits
into a plan for the regeneration of Anfield.
May. The club will formally lodge a planning application with the council
for the new stadium. After this the councils planning committee has 16
weeks to reach a decision. If they give the plan the go-ahead, it will
be submitted to John Prescott for approval.
If however
the planning committee refuse consent the club will have the right to
appeal. In that case Mr Prescott will also be the "referee"
having to decide yes or no.
None of the
99 members of the council who are season ticket holders or regular fans
at Anfield, will be allowed to vote. 9/01/2001
